A car manufacturer sends an engineer half-way around the world to advise a plant manager how to better conform to quality standards. The overall trip may cost $10,000 in terms of costs spent on travel, hotel, wages, and the time wasted on travel time. It only sent the engineer because a director already spends 40% of his time traveling between sites and visiting suppliers. The company could achieve the same result with a digital twinned plant, augmented reality interface for the plant manager, and a virtual reality headset for the engineer.
